The International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) – Pax Romana was founded in 1921 in Fribourg, Switzerland. The movement is recognised by the Holy See and is a member of UN-ECOSOC with the "B" status. To promote the student apostolate among students in Universities and other Higher Institutions of learning, stressing their responsibility in life, in the Church’s mission and in the world. Guided by the motto "Preferential Option for the poor" and committed to the struggle for Justice, Peace and Human development, to aim at putting our studies at the service of the Poor. To further the Christian faith experience lived in one’s own commitment and to try to communicate this faith by bearing witness to Jesus Christ. To develop a pedagogy which helps students integrate their Christian faith in their efforts to build a more just society. The IMCS – Pax Romana in an International Catholic Organisation. We are active participants in the building of the Church; we confess our faith in Jesus Christ, Lord of History, He who "though rich, yet for our sake became poor" (2 Co 8,9). In our teams, the Chaplain plays a very important role. He is the spiritual counsellor and formator. We are an evangelising movement in the students milieu through our testimony and openness to others-- the students, the poor, the marginalised, the oppressed and to Christ. We believe students, enlightened by their Faith in Jesus Christ, are the Leaders of today and tomorrow to bring about a better and more human world. IMCS – Pax Romana is present and active in 90 countries of the world on every continent. The International Secretariat is located in Paris (France). The international dimension of our movement offers us a chance to promote solidarity, to share our vision and to undertake a common project. It is through dialogue between cultures that we understand the universality of the message of the Gospel. IMCS-Pax Romana is an international NGO that has an active role within the United Nations System and takes part in matters concerning youth, literacy, human rights, environment and sustainable development. The Review of Life or Reflection – Action – Reflection is the method of the movement. This method tries to avoid an intellectual formation without an impact on reality and an activism without reflection. The movement aims at promoting an integrated formation and strong commitment among the members to transforming the society for the Kingdom of God that is already here and yet to come. How can we put our knowledge at the service of the poor, and fully commit ourselves to the scientific, intellectual and cultural demands of the struggle for justice, peace, democratisation and Human development of Africa ? |
